what other finish can i use to seal and protect stained hardwood floors other than polyurthane. thanks

You can use Betco Catseal (available at www.drillspot.com) or any other epoxy based wood floor sealer. They are two component systems (resin and catalyst). If it is the fumes that concern you about polyurethane then you should also consider using a water-based polyurethane. They are cheaper than the epoxy coatings and they don't have nearly as strong of fumes as the oil-borne polyurethanes. The epoxies are going to be your most durable solution, but again they are far mor expensive than polyurethane.
