We are remodeliing a Duplex in columbia pa and have put brazilian cherry laminate flooring in the hallway. The trim and woodwork around the doors is white. We installed a banister at the top of the stairs after tearing out the wall to open things up. Now we need to descide if we should staind the bannister to match the floor or paint it white to flow with the trim. I am not sure which way to go.

Answer

Hello .. My suggestion would be to paint the hand rail ,, that is if it is not overly large ,, and stain the spindles , if there is a board at the bottom of the bannister , just at the bottom of the spindles , I would paint that also ..

If I paint the top board and stain the spindles what do I do whit the end post?

Accepted Answer

If the end post is simple round or square post then I would stain it .. if it is a decorative , carved , or turned post , then I would look at where it connects wuith the top handrail .. is there a turned section there where it connects with the top rail .. and is that decorative section the same size as the rail or smaller .,. I would paint that section .. If that turv=ned section is very much larger than the top rail .. then I woul think it gawdy if painted .. and would stain it all
