If this looks a bit like chewing gum stuck on the skin or a red wart this may be a histiocytoma which is a viral infection that usually clears on its own.
You can read about this problem here and see a picture of onfe

The dog becomes immune to the infection after the body overcomes it.

It can be a good idea to see your vet with any new lump or bump that lingers. It could be 'nothing' but if it happens to be something that needs to be removed then getting it off while it is as small as possible is usually best.
Hope this helps you!
Good that it was removed! As I said better to take them off while small!
If its a lick granuloma then you may want to discuss the possibility of a low thyroid problem or allergies with the vet.
The biopsy results will tell you as much as possible about the tissue found to determine the next steps if more treatment will be needed or not.
If you know the dog's breeder you might go back to see if any other pups in the litter or any of the parent or grandparents had any similar issues.

Well my crystal ball *is* a bit on the fritz never should have thrown it for the dog to fetch!
Hopefully all this will be a one time deal with no future problems!
Thanks for the above accept!
