pump getting soft my be symtom of another problem perhaps? i have bleed a lot of diesel and can't get a start. 171k miles 3 injector pumps, injectors replaced and waterpump replaced. no computer or tranny work. a freind put his computer on it and got a ecu communication code, low railpreasure code, and a tranny communication code.

Accepted Answer

the communications codes may be just a blip in the system between his scan tool and the vehicles computers.I have seen this low rail pressure before,in most cases its the fuel filter that is plugged and needs replaced but it sounds like your on top of that.If you have a leak in the fuel lines between the fuel tank and the fuel filter or anywhere else in the system this can cause this problem as you would be pumpng to prime but would be just sucking air,one common leak i have found is the fuel filter bleed screw and the hoses going to the fuel filter and from the filter to the pump, you may have to inspect all of these hoses and have someone pump the primer to see if you can locate a leak,if no leaks are found then you may have a bad fuel filter housing, this housing comes with a new pump,i have had to replace some of these before on these vehicles and alot of other guys i work with as well have replaced these. Here are some suggestions to check over.also check your engine oil level and make sure its not overfull as an injector may be bleeding this pressure down into the crankcase, these usually fail around every 70000 miles.I hope this helped,if you need anything else let me know,Thanks Pete

have looked for fuel leaks and found none including dropping the fuel tank. the motor humps and bumps as it is turned over but will not take off. oil level normal and had not used or gained any. would the fuel filter housing prevent a start or just a nucence

I have seen the filter housing create a vaccum leak around the pump which when trying to rpime the system or just start it the injection pump would just suck air and not the fuel from the filter or the tank but this may or may not be the issue with yours. You have already had the injection pump replaced soi I dont thinkt this would be the problem and your fuel filter is good but the pump isnt working proerly and you have no leaks so it may be possible that the pump is at fault and may need a new housing. Thanks Pete

phone numbers and emails arent allowed in here so they wont show up,sorry.

i noticed a schader valve on the front of the motor under the alternator which is conected to the fuel system in some way. if positive fuel preasure was applied here would it start the motor and perhaps show the leak?

Info Request

yes this is a vaccum test port for a special tool to be put on to test vaccum being pulled on the fuel system.if pressure is applied here it should run through the system or at least part of the fuel system and if there are leaks they should show up,this may also start the vehicle but im not sure on that as i havent tried it.Thanks Pete,if you are satisfied please click the accept answer button as this is how i get paid but only if you feel satisfied, thanks Pete
