Question

I have an old Day and Night Furnace. Model # 100U36-19A. The thermostat kicks it on and the fan starts to run bu the burners fail to ignite. It does not have a thermocouple, it has a standing pilot light that remains lit, but will not fire. I replaced that part before about 10 years ago, but I cannot remember what the part is called - it's not a themocouple, but what is it?

Hello, coming from the pilot assembly there is a aluminum pilot tube and a wire(s) or copper capillary tube. Do you know which you have that runs along side the 1/4" aluminum tube?

There isn't a copper line. The aluminum line that appears to be about 5/16" runs to the pilot. The pilot has two heavily insulated wires coming from it up to the electrical area with the fan relays, etc. I can't remember what this pilot assembly is called since it does not have a thermocouple.

No, this thing is incorporated into the pilot assembly, it almost looks like a piece of ceramic on the back side of the pilot. THe one wire comes from the transformer to a switch with a dial on it, then down to the "thermopile" maybe? then back to the gas valve. I think that is the right name for the unit now - "Thermopile" - could that be it?

That looks close, if I pull the existing out would it have a model number on it? Also would this cause the problems I am having?

Answer

yes it would. it is either the thermopile or gas valve. To test you would need to see if it read at least 750 millivolts at the 2 ends

What is life expectancy on thermopiles? I believe I changed this same part about 10 years ago. Should I keep one on hand?

Posted by Billy 53 days and 3 hours ago.

Answer

actually 10 years is good. I wish all my stuff lasted that long! And yes, this is apart that would be wise to keep one on hand

One last question. Who do you recommend online to purchase this part? I live in the backwoods of Wyoming and don't have a lot of choices locally.
