I have a DELL laptop. When I plug in the power lead the power dies and the green light goes out on power supply. Have you any idea what it would be?

Do you mean the power gets shut off from the laptop and it turns off?

Hi.

The power lead has a battery pack that has a small green led light on that illuminates when it is not plugged into back of laptop. As soon as I cannot power lead to laptop the green light on the battery goes out and it doesnt charge the laptop.

The cause of this could be a few things. The most likely cause is a faulty power adapter, which you will want to replace to see if that is the problem.

Once you replace the power adapter, if the new adapter displays the same fault then you are looking at a problem with the actual charging port of the laptop.

One thing to test before buying a new adapter, is remove the battery completely from the machine, set it aside. Plug the main power supply into the laptop, and turn on the machine. If the power adapter does NOT display the same problem then it is likely the battery that is problematic.
