My bmw 01 325I has a faulty OBD code for Cam positon sensor ( intake ) I bough a new sensor ( not an original BMW sensor) I installed the new sensor and erased the code but within 10 min the code came back. i need adviced on what to do. I took it to pass the emmision ( but failed do to the code ) I am an Automotive Student in Chicago IL Thank You Noe

Already Tried:

I cannot find any information on P0396 either, but I will trust your sources and test equipment. It is common for these sensors to fail. I have seen master mechanics chase their tails over this dozens of times. Aftermarket cam sensors almost NEVER work. I don't know what it is about them, but 9 times out of 10, the fault code will come back. I would return that aftermarket sensor and buy one from the dealer, clear the code and let me know what happens.
