Question

Is the EGT sensor on the new VWs a Positive Temperature Coefficient sensor? It seems to read about 275 ohms at room temp and resistance increases when we blow the hot air gun on it. I thought it was a type K thermocouple at first, but it doesnt put out any microvolts with the heat gun...

We make Boost/EGT gauges at McnallyElectronics.com, and our customers want to know if these new VW EGT sensors will work with our gauges. The tuners at Kerma TDI sent us one of the sensors... it has a 'cage' around the sensor like the O2 sensors... we thought it was a Type K thermocouple, but it acts like a Positive Temperature Coefficient sensor, because the resistance increases with temperature. I'd like to know the specs on these sensors... who makes them, and the 'beta' or the equation for temperature vs resistance. Have a wiring diagram? How does the ECU measure the sensor? Does it have a resistor from 5V or 12V in series with the sensor? Does the manual have a table of ohms and temperature you can send me?
