1992 Chrysler LeBaron, the heat gauge on my dash was going to the high level and I added antifreeze. It fixed for awhile then it started again. Now after driving my car for several miles and turn it off. Minutes later, my car won't start. After letting it sit for a few minutes it has started. It has done this twice so far. Also there is a problem with the tailpipe/muffler (loud noise from under car). Can you help and are these problems related.

Mari hello do you see any antifreeze on ground? Your discription make it soud like your engine has blown a head gasket.your local repair shop should be able to confirm that quite easly Jimg211

I have had a small leak under car for years, had it repaired and it came started again almost immediately. It's minimal and I think it's oil. (fyi, I don't drive often, leg injury has me pretty much house bound. so I don't notice problems until I do drive. I may not go out for 3 weeks) But, why won't car start?

I mean, why doesn't the car start after I've driven a few miles or more. Then after several minutes it does start. When I try to start the car, it does not have a clicking sound like it's a dead battery, so I'm confused. Celanoid, alternator, lose belt? Help

I'm thinking antifreeze is leaking into the combustion chamber preventing the start-up,but evaperates and starts up later.Is the no start a crank no fire up or the engine does nothing and the dash lights go out jimg211

Exactly what does happen when car does not start? Can you hear starter making any noise at all? Do the warning light in guages go out?

No, the starter doesn't make any noise when I try to start the car.

An why does the temperature gauge show the hot level on the high side (the car has never stopped or done anything else other than register on the high side on temperature gauge.

OK Now is the antifeeze low again? If not all the problems may be related to the lack of driving much.Antifreze can and will evaperate a little overtime,the exhaust can and will rust thru from sitting,and the no start and temp guage reading can be caused by old weak battery that does not hold a charge well Jimg211 It realy should be checked in person by mechanic. Has it been jump started?

thank you for your patience! It hasn't been jump started because the 2 times it didn't start, by the time I would call someone for a jump start, I would try to start the car and it would start. Just several minutes after it has had time to cool, I guess.

Thank you for the info so i can get a mental picture on what is happening.A bad battery would rarly come back to life after sitting a few mins.A starter could stop working some times when hot. Also unlikly but possable would be loose or corroded battery terminals.

I had the car completely tuned, new belts, new fluids, etc. about 1-1/2 yrs ago and have driven it less than 5000 miles since then. So are you saying you think it's a minor rather than major problem? That is my last question and then I will let you go and thank you again.

I would start minor and hope for the least expensive repair.A charging system test should include a starter draw test.That should eleninate a lot. The head gasket may be ruled out with a few simple checks once the engine is hot.And of course if the car is put up in the air on a lift the exhaust can be checked.Most of the testing woud be included in any repair cost.
