Hi,
Hemobartonella is a fairly rare problem among cats, I don't think you need to worry about Maya having it. It is a blood parasite that is transmitted mostly through fleas and likely other blood sucking insects (ticks, mosquitoes, etc.). It is possible that the disease is transmitted through bite wounds though it is not known for sure. Three weeks of appropriate antibiotics generally takes care of hemobartonella. The main problem this parasite causes is anemia. The parasite attaches to red blood cells, and then the body destroys the affected red blood cells causing anemia. Signs of anemia are lethargy, weakness, pale gums, etc. Here is a link to a page about this:

I think you would be fairly safe to go ahead and get this kitty. Introduce the two cats very gradually to reduce the likelihood of fighting. If there appears to be problems keep them in separate rooms until you can retest him to be 100% certain. Here is a link to a page about introducing a new cat to your home:

I believe the reason is that treatment doesn't always completely eliminate the parasite, so if you re-tested right away it may appear that the parasites were gone when in reality there are a few left. Some cats do remain carriers after treatment. Make sure you always remain on top of flea control, and don't allow the cats to ever have any.
