Question

what special disconnect tool is used to disconnect the transmission oil cooler lines from a 2005 Dodge dakota (3.7L). None of the ones I have seem to fit. The lines have a slight taper behind (the side away from the connector) the nipple.

Answer

Most of the newer model trans lines have a spring clip that holds the line in place. There is a special tool that will release it but you can get the clip out with a small pick so you can pull the line straight out. I'll try to hunt down a good picture for you.

There is no clip on this one. The "clip" is part of this connector. New lines are just pushed into it until it clicks. A standard 3/8" disconnect tool doesn't not fit. It appears the taper described in original question makes this connection slightly different.

Answer

Hey there,

Perhaps this link will help, it has some simple universal tools for undoing Trans lines. Which also work on fuel lines in many cases.

I am looking for which disconnect tool works for this vehicle. I have a similar kit, but nothing fits.

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

This is a new expert. I'm sorry for all the delays. Chrysler products now use the Jiffy-tite style quick connect, the same style used on GM products. These do take a special disconnect tool to spread the wire retainer in three spots as you pull the line off, no others will work. Here is a link to a set of these tools.
