Question

Hi. I wonder if you can help. I have a cat who is now a year old - I have had her since she was 5 weeks old - a Feral Cat. She is a very loving cat except she has a habit of biting me when she feels like it. I know that if you pet them too much they may sometimes go for you but this does'nt seem the case. Is it because she is Feral? Thank you Mrs June Warthall From a very wet Javea in Spain.

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer.

Feral kittens can generally be tamed if they are taken in by humans before 7 weeks of age. However, this doesn't mean that they will be as normal as a kitten from a tame queen and exposed to people since birth.

Desensitization to people is a complicated neurologic process and there are no guarantees that a tamed feral animal will ever stop some of their aggressive/protective behaviors.

This is likely related to her coming from a feral history, but some tame cats will exhibit this behavior as well. Cats have different personalities just like people, so not all are nice all the time. It is my experience that this is more common in female cats vs. males.
