Question

we just replaced the fuel pump in a mazda tribute and now the 4x4 light is blinking. it is the 6 cylinder with 110,000 miles. Also, when you start the car, the gauges rotate to full capacity, then wait a second or two, then settle to the right locations. Any Ideas?

HI I CAN HELP YOU WITH THIS , HERE ARE A COUPLE OF COMMON TROUBLES WITH THAT, DO THESE TESTS AND LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU FIND ,

 

Customer Concern:The X XXXXX XXXXX light is flashing.
Tests/Procedures:1. Check for an open or shorted wire harness between the differential lock solenoid and the X XXXXX XXXXX control module. If the wire harness tests good, test the resistance of the differential lock solenoid to determine if it is open or shorted.

2. Check for an open or shorted wire harness between the differential temperature sensor and the X XXXXX XXXXX control module. If the harness tests good test the resistance of the temperature sensor to determine if it is open or shorted.
Potential Causes:Poor Connection
Differential Lock Solenoid
Differential Temperature Sensor
Harness
Tech Tips:There are two connectors between the X XXXXX XXXXX control module and the rotary blade coupling.

to change the fuel pump, we disconnected the battery, could it be that the PCM needs to reset?

shouldn't be you said there was no codes but you need a professional scan tool to read some of the body codes,i would try clearing the code with your scan tool , then if it persists seek out a better scan tool , maybe even autozone

NO MANY OF THEM DO THAT TO THE GAUGES WHEN YOU FIRST START IT.
