Answer

Hello XXXXXXXXX!
Thanks for choosing JustAnswer.
My name is Vladimir.
Use a test light and check for power on the Tan/Red wire at the solenoid with the key in the start position.
If you get power, but the solenoid does not click- replace it.
If you do not get power to the solenoid, check for power at #21 15A fuse in the Central Junction Box with the key on START. If you get power to the fuse and it is not blown, your next step is the transmission range sensor ( Park/Neutral switch) that is located on the left side of the transmission where the shift lever is. The switch is supposed to connect the Dark Blue/Orange and Tan/Red wires when the transmission is in the Park or Neutral positions.
Let me know about your findings or reply if you need more information.

Is it possible for a sensor like that to work sometimes and not others.

It will start sometimes if i mess with the shift knob and then not others could it be and adjustment rather than the sensor itself

Answer

Hi,
Sorry for the delay, I have been sleeping ( my time zone is GMT/UTC +3:00)
Yes, the transmission range sensor could be misaligned, especially if somebody has removed it before. If it does not start in Park, try starting it in Neutral. Make sure your reverse lights work and check if the sensor connector is secured and not corroded.

i replaced the trs or neutral saftey switch and it didn't help, still nothing, then i had it towed after i put the old trs back on when it got to the shop it started right upany other possible linkage issues or is it something else electrical

Accepted Answer

I do not think it is a linkage issue.
You know, it is not a good idea to make guesses when it comes to intermittent electrical problems. Next time it won't start- check for power at #21 fuse with the key in START.
If you do not get power, your ignition switch is probably bad. If you get power at the Fuse, go further and check for power at the switch connector ( Dk.Blue/Orange wire), if it is "hot" with the key in START, check for power at the Tan/Red wire ( connector should be plugged to the switch, back probe the TAN/RED wire). If there is no power - your switch is faulty or misaligned and finally, if you have power on Tan /Red , but the solenoid does not click - the solenoid is faulty.
