Question

I HAVE 2006 TDI JETTA, GOT TIRED OF HEARING SEAT BELTS CHIME AT ME [EVEN WHEN IM SITTING IN MY CAR WITH IT RUNNING PARKED!] SO I UNPLUGGED THE YELLOW PLUG UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT. THAT FIXED THE SEAT BELT CHIME [NO LONGER DOES IT] BUT NOW THE AIRBAG IDIOT LIGHT IS ON CONSTANTLY. I PLUGGED IT BACK IN, SEAT BELT CHIME IS BACK BUT AIRBAG LIGHT IS STILL ON. ANY WAY I CAN LOSE THE SEAT BELT CHIME AND RESTORE NORMALCY TO MY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER?

jdiesel,

The chime is there as a safety feature. The only things that can turn it off are the dealer scan tools, but the dealer will not turn it off for you. Vag-Com can also do this. You will have to research in your area who has one for rent or use and also research the coding to remove this. I highly doubt that the coding is easily obtainable online. The airbag light can also be cleared with either of those two scan tools.

I know its a safety feature but to chime when the car is running and stopped is dumb. So just unplugging the connector under the seat did this? why? and why wont it work properly if re connected? I need more info than your giving me.

Mike is right, when you hit accept please hit accept next to his name so he'll be compensated and not me. He works nights at the local dealer so I'll answer further for you.

The seatbelt latch is actually used to determine how fast the airbags should deploy, there is a tension sensor so it can estimate how heavy you are and how much inertia you are moving forward with. That's why the airbag light is now on. So if you leave it disconnected the airbag can't deploy properly and could deploy with too much force or something. The proper way to disable the seatbelt chime is to find somebody with Vag-Com to recode the instrument cluster. As Mike said the dealer won't do this but if you can find somebody with Vag-Com they will do it for you. You can buy this from www.ross-tech.com but it's like $300 or so. You need to find a local shop that specializes in VW and Audi repair.
