Question

Hi, I rescued a pit bull about 3 weeks ago. She is about a year old. i do not know her past, but at a year old she had already given birth to a litter (her nipples look worked on). I also have 7 cats. The pit bull has gotten inside on two occasions. VERY scary situations. she attacked my cats. fortunately i got to her in time, but it seems like after she attacks she doesnt bite. is this possible? but she was definitely in attack mode i had to run after her around the house and pull her by her collar and throw her out into the backyard. btw we have been keeping her in the backyard. is it possible to train her to not attack the cats even though she is a year old? are my cats in danger? I would hate to give her up but my cats have priority.

You can work on training at home while she waits for her vet appointment.

I'd start with the nothing in life is free program which you can read about here

http://www.paws.org/cas/resources/fact_sheets_dogs/nothingfree.php

I'd work with her on clicker training and this site has videos (just go down the page below the ad to see them)

http://www.clickertrainusa.com/clicker-training-videos.htm

The clicker can be the key to getting right behavior from your dog as a way to stop the wrong cat chasing behavior.

Here are two articles that may help you

Bringing her inside on a leash so you have control can be a help. So can a crate for her inside.

Working on training of your control over her and her self control may get her to be safe with your cats.

For dogs chasing is a lot of fun and very exciting.

I'd make sure to have dog free safety zones in the house for box, food, and cat naps even if you get the dog pretty steady with your cats.

If you do not find you can handle the needed trainng (or others in your home cannot) then you may want to rehome her to a single dog home. Spaying her will make that a bit easier as you won't have to worry about the people who want to breed pitbulls wanting her.

Hope this helps you!
