At this point, I would recommend a tetanus shot. If he hasn't had one in the last 10 years or does not remember, a tetanus vaccine would be best. Tetanus is naturally occurring in the environment, which is why a tetanus vaccine is so important.
I would recommend possibly visiting an Urgent Care clinic. Most are equipped to provide a tetanus vaccine. In addition, they can dress the area.
At home, you will want to keep the area clean, dry, and covered until healed. You may also want to consider an over the counter antibiotic ointment.

Yes, within the last 10 years is fine. In fact, tetanus immunity may last a bit longer than 10 years in some patients, but 10 years is the practice standard for recommending a booster. He should be fine. Therefore, just keep it clean, dry, and covered. As I mentioned, possibly consider some antibiotic ointment. Also, if he develops any infection, please see a provider.
