Question

Hi I live in Australia and download onto via the USB onto my Kindle, but cannot get many current books (at least from Amazon or Fictionwise) as they are encrypted into a secure format that won't work for Kindle. Is there any way of downloading kindle books from the Amazon bookstore via the USB?

Info Request

if I understand correctly, you want to transfer books from computer to Kindle via USB?

I already transfer unencrypted books via USB to my Kindle - however those books are not the most recent releases on Amazon.com which it seems are only available to download wirelessly via the Amazon site (and for this you have to live in the USA or Canada). I use the fictionwise.com site most often and while they have thousands of books which are 'kindle friendly' these are all the older books, while the recent releases I am interested in are only available in secure formats which do not suit the Kindle. There may be no solution to my problem, but it seems most odd that Amazon are prepared to deliver newly released books wirelessly and it is not possible to get them any other way.

Accepted Answer

Currently, Kindle is only available in the US. Whispernet wireless delivery is also only available in the US (see a coverage map here: http://www.showmycoverage.com/mycoverage.jsp?id=A921ZON). But Kindle can also be used without activating the wireless feature while you are traveling outside the US or wireless service area or live outside US. All content you purchase from the Kindle Store is saved to Your Media Library on Amazon.com. This allows you to download your books, newspapers and magazines to your computer and transfer items via Kindle's USB connection.

But if you purchase books other than Amazon, there are chances that you will not be able to read them on Kindle.
