That can happen if Thunderbird fails to make a valid connection with the server on one attempt.
One solution is to:
Try deleting the saved password -- Go to TOOLS > OPTIONS > PRIVACY > PASSWORDS > EDIT SAVED PASSWORDS and here you can delete old passwords. The next time you "Get Mail" Thunderbird will ask for the password and you can check the box to remember the value.
But you do not remember the password. so it does not apply.
You may wait for a while until email server is up.
What might be happening here is that the password (the old or previous working one) was written or stored into the windows registry or in a special little database file inside Thunderbird but has now become corrupted or damaged and so it's now not working.
Another possibility might be that the password is correct but its NOT being transmitted or received by the authentication process or server at the ISP end of the system. i.e. its damaged or scrambled or gabbled in transit. So by the time it reaches the server it doesn't match what the server expects from Thunderbird hence just says password incorrect etc.

You have two options:
1. wait ans watch if it is the server which is down.
2. contact email provider website to change your password and try.
"Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server pop.att.yahoo.com responded invalid user/password."
I can send e-mails and they are received OK, but I cannot get mail. the FireFox browser works OK.
I am using 32 bit Vista and
Thunderbird version 2.0.023 (20090812)
