Thank you for using Just Answer!

There are a couple avenues that you can take to get your greeting card design business moving.

First is to write or email the large greeting card companies. Contact information is available on their websites (i.e. Hallmark, American Greetings). You will want to request the guidelines that these companies set forth. They will more than likely request a portfolio of your work. So if you have not designed a portfolio, that will be your first order of business.

A good idea would be to contact some of the smaller and medium size greeting card companies first and use those experiences to fine tune your sales presentation and your portfolio. This will provide you with the opportunity to be more prepared to contact the large sized companies with your best product.

You can find companies looking for design artists as well through the Greeting Card Association. Another option is to purchase the book "Sell the Fun Stuff". It will provide a listing of 200 companies that hire freelance artists for greeting cards, etc....

Another way to locate companies to sell to is to go to various card shops and look at the back of the cards. Write down the names of the companies and then research them online. Contact these companies and as for their portfolio submittal guidelines. There are over 2000 greeting card companies out there so it may take some diligence and effort, but with good designs and creativity, there is the opportunity to do well.
