Answer

Hello, jennilee.

It's possible that during the grooming your dog got 'razor burn' on his tummy and/or experienced an allergic reaction or sensitivity to some product the groomer used, perhaps for the first time.

I'm glad to hear the Sulfodene has stopped the itching, bu tif the area had a 'dirty' smell to it, this may be a symptom of infection, so it would be a good idea to have your dog evaluated by a vet, as soon as possible. He may need antibiotics if the area he scratched on his tummy has become infected.

Try to have your dog seen by a vet for definite diagnosis and treatment, as soon as you can, and I hope he's feeling much more comfortable, very soon.

Hi again, and thanks for your reply.

You can apply cool compresses to the area, make sure it's kept clean and dry (when you're not applying the compresses), and apply a thin film of plain Neosporin on his belly, to help prevent or treat, for the time being, any infection. Also, if you can, trim his claws (if the groomer did not do this recently) to minimize the scratches he's inflicting, and you can keep the area covered so he can no longer scratch it by cutting a men's or boy's 'A' shirt (ribbed tank top style undershirt), to make a 'sleeve' to slip just onto his torso, over the affected area.

I hope Oz is feeling much better very soon.
