you can go between 4 hi and 2 hi on the move..but to engage 4 low,,you need to be in [n] sitiing still..the instructions should be on the inside of the drivers sun viser

Answer

hi

auto 4wd high is used when you need traction on ice, snow ,mud,or to just clime a hill,,4wd high does not change the gear ratio...4wd low does however change the gear ratio to a much lower gear, this is used when you need a lot of tourqe or for creeping up hills slowly..it is posable to break the transmission or the transfer case or even the gears..if switched from hi to low on the go

thanks

Answer

hi

no,this sounds more like the transmission slipping

Transfer Case Description

New Venture Gear 236 Automatic Two Speed Transfer Case

View Full Image

The NV236 transfer case is an automatic transfer case with three drive ranges. Shifting from rear wheel drive to four wheel drive is done automatically when the transfer case shift control module receives wheel rotating slip information from the speed sensors. The transfer case shift control module then engages the transfer case motor/encoder to position the transfer case from rear to four wheel drive. When the transfer case shift control module receives information that the wheel rotation is the same on both axles, the transfer case shift control module sends position information to the motor/encoder to put the transfer case back into rear wheel drive. The three drive ranges are 2HI, 4HI, and 4LO. The 2HI position is for normal driving with the rear wheels pushing the vehicle. The 4HI, position is for driving through sand, snow, mud, gravel, or heavy rain at normal or slightly below normal speeds. The 4HI engages the front axle to allow for four wheel drive. The front axle is pulling the vehicle, and the rear axle is pushing the vehicle. The 4LO range is used for off road driving heavy snow, deep mud, or shallow fording. The 4io is similar to the 4HI except that the gearing in the transfer case is set for low speed and high torque. The NV236 is manufactured at Syracuse, New York by New Venture Gear a division of New Process Gear for General Motors.

What I was asking is if when backing up(reverse) is it common when truck is in 4wd hi that the vehicle hesitates when backing up(you have to really put the gas down to make it move). You said the transmission was slipping and I wondered how much that was to repair?.What does transmission slipping mean?

Accepted Answer

hi

if the engine is revinig in reverse, yet the blazer moves slowly,,this may be the trans slipping,if this is the case it will more then likely need rebuilt..this would cost $1500+/-,,but if i were you ,,,,i would changew the filter and fluid first, the filter may be clogged
