Question

I have a 03 chevy 3500 duramax.   I bought it used and it had been salvaged because of an front end accident. There was no damaage to the engine. I replaced bumper, radiator, trans cooler, AC condensor, fenders and hood. It ran good and normal. However I noticed crankcase level increaing and when dealer checked they recomended injector replacement. I now find that this is a routine probliem due to defective design injectors. Dealer wont replace them under 200 K warranty because title was is salvaged.    This sounds arbitrary since the vehicle was not salavaged due to engine damage. What is your suggestion other than a lawsuit.

They put the vin in their computer and a big warranty block poped up across the screen due to salvage title.

If thats the case, they will never fix it under warranty.

Do you want the procedures to repair it yourself?

I thought about speaking with the service rep for the area about doing the fix regardless of the warranty block in view of a possible lawsuit based on faulty design as evidenced by the extended warranty and the numerous similar problems surrounding that model. I am an attorney and believe the suit will be successful. What do you think the best tactic is.?

Are you looking for the advice from another Attorney or the advise from an Auto Technician on this matter?

From the auto tech of course. You said I would never get it fixed based on warranty. is this simply a policy regardless of why the title was salvaged. who should I speak with at GM.

Accepted Answer

Ok, im in agreement with you on the fact that an accident that didnt damage the engine shouldnt release GM from fixing one of their bad designs that they sold and have sold in the past to unknowing buyers. I would contact GM customer assistance and let them know of your intentions and let them know that you feel that suing them and the dealership that denied you the repair may be your only course of action. That may change everybodys tune because they know that the front end wreck didnt ruin the fuel injectors. The injectors are inside of the engine block and are very well protected.
