I just leased an suv I cannot afford. The dealership says I cannot return the car because of the contract for 39 months! I purchased this car 3 hours ago, what do I have to do to get out of this car and back into my old suv; Is there a law or something to help me retract or bail??
State/Country relating to Question: Florida Already Tried: went back to dealership and told them I couldn't afford suv and they said sorry you are stuck
Unfortunately there is no federal or state law which gives the consumer a three day right to cancel. As soon as you sign and drive away with the vehicle you are liable to the agreed contract. You would be liable per the terms you have agreed to. As to options see if you can assign the lease terms to a third party. You would need to review this to see if it is an option or whether the dealer can do this for you. There are lease transfer companies which can assist with this. Other option would be to try to sell the vehicle and then use those funds to pay off on the lease terms. This of course is harder to do since the sales price would generally be less than what you would pay for having to purchase the vehicle.

but the 3rd party gets stuck w/ the suv and I cannot get back my old suv that I traded; so, I'm doubly screwed!
Unless you swap leases with another vehicle, this is the only way you can get rid of a lease that you cannot afford. You have no grounds to break the lease, your goal now is to either pay it or transfer it to someone else. The transaction with the dealer is final.
