Question

My cat was at the vet about 6 days ago and he was shaved bathed microchiped and vaccinated. We decided to do all these things at once because he was sedated and hates going to the vet. Now on the 6th day he still doesn't want to leave the room or eat much at all hes getting crusties around his eye and doesnt wash his face on his own seems to growl when i try to move him or pick him up. Also. they did cut his nails what looks to be like they cut them too short. I need to know if he is just very upset and will be fine or if its something else I would hate to take him to the vet so soon again because its a big ordeal and he hates it and gets very upset but it has been 6days and he should be feeling better by now please help me with some advice!

Answer

Cats that don't eat do not last long. They go into liver failure within several days. If the problem has been going on for 6 days, it is very serious. You can offer onion-free jarred baby food, chicken or turkey, to stimulate the appetite. If he won't eat it, he needs to be force fed with a syringe. If he fights the feeding, he needs to be rechecked by your vet. Cyproheptadine can be used as an appetite stimulant in cats, your vet should have some.

Yesterday he did eat a very small amount and he like to just lay there in one spot . He will only eat his cat food i use to offer him chicken when he was feeling well and he wont take it. Do you think that I should give him another day or take him in? Im afraid he just might be traumatized and might get worse or more upset if i take him in. He seemed healthy before he went to the vet just had matted fur and some fleas so we wanted to clean him up, cuz he usually wont let me brush him. I dont know if I should wait another day.

Answer

I would have him seen today if the loss of appetite and lethargy has been going on this long.

Okay he just ate like 5 of his kitty treats but was upset when i tried to give him his cat food. So lets say he is eating a little should i still take him in?

Answer

If you can't get him to eat and drink his normal amounts, I would get him checked over.

Last questiong and I really appreciate your input. When he came back from the vet it looked like, and it still does, that they cut his nails way too short. Some of them were falling off on the sides and where it would be pink was now like grayish. Didn't have that nice pink under the nail like it normally does. If that happens would it hurt a cat to walk and jump around like when humans get their nails cut too short? I always kept his claws long could he be in pain of upset about that?

Answer

The nails may be sore for a few days, but should have healed quickly. They should not be painful enough to cause the signs you are seeing. If the quick of the nails are greyish, there may be blood clots in the nails.

yes like all of his nails are grayish, and he always seems to wanna nap like his eyes are trying to close. Sound like to me that you think its best that i just take him in, even thoe its gonna be pure hell for him? Thank you very much for all of your help, is it okay i give him another day or to go today?

Accepted Answer

If all the nails are grayish, there may be a problem with them. If you offer baby food and he turns his nose up to it, I would have him checked out today if possible.
