My 1 year old female spayed cat has a large what looks and feels to be a fat accumulation under her. In the lower abdominal area. It sways to and fro when she runs. I have noticed other cats have this and some don't . Do you know what this might be?

This is an abdominal fat pad that MANY cats have. Even if the cat is a healthy weight this pad may still be there. It is nothing to worry about. and there is no way to get rid of it.

Does this have something to do with "living in the wild"...i.e. Does that serve as a barrier to injury during fights? No health risks involved?

There are no health risks if the cat is a healthy weight otherwise. It may provide extra warmth and protection to the cat.
