Question

My Father has a older Itasca MH, with a french name and european motor. We had to replace the motor a couple of years ago and now the MH won't grunt, grind, burp, or start. we have charged the battery (or at least we think we have). It is a foreign made Itasca, and we went to Montana to buy the motor. I though can not find the paperwork for the motor and the place where we bought it. I would like to refurbish the little motorhome as it really is quite cute. I am going to need a new fridge. And probably lots of help. My dad is 91 and wheel chair bound. I can get him in to this MH if I can get it running again. Help.

Info Request

Hello , my name is Joel

It has been many years since I was a Lesharo / Phasar mechanic , but I will do my best to help out. The engine , drive train , and chassis wiring is Renault.

  • Is your Phasar a gasoline or diesel model ?
  • Normally there is a "chassis" battery under the hood , and a "coach" battery underneath the coach , start by checking , charging or replacing these batteries as needed...
I will watch for your reply

Hi Joel!

2 Batteries? Well no wonder! Can you give me a hint where the second battery may be under the chassis?

The Motorhome is gas powered. Phasar/LeSharo. Renault - yes. Ok, let me start with the batteries being replaced. Are they special also or can you get one at like Costco or do I need to head to a RV dealer to buy something special?

Thanks for the start Joel.

The chassis battery is under the hood , I think the physical dimensions of that battery are not a standard size. I would try to get a part number off from each one , and match them up at a good parts store such as NAPA , but you could try Costco.

The engine battery will be a conventional automotive type , but the coach battery underneath will be a deep cycle type. I am not 100% sure but the coach battery will likely be a 24 or 27 series. You could probably find a coach battery at Costco.

The coach battery is underneath the coach , could be right or left side , there will be 4 bolts to loosen , and then the battery can be lowered down along with the metal tray.

Give the battery cables and connections a good visual inspection for corrosion etc. at the same time...

Be sure to let me know how you make out with the batteries , and let me know if you need any more assistance .
