Question

My situation is a little complicated. I received two letters of Jury Duty Quationairre (apparently....granparents residing in that state much have thrown or misplaced the letters) and now i received a final notice (Juror Subpoena Failure to Respond). I have to show up at the court for 5-15 minutes to explain or answer something. It is fine with me, but I am not techincally a resident of that state anymore, although I do attend school in that state. I am a little scared what should I do or say. PA is my residency state, I have licence through there, and the property of my parents is there too. I used to live in NY, and I still go to school here. Another problem is that since my parents hold a property in NY too and since my military station is in NY, I pay taxes to NY only. Will they have a problem with that? What will they ask me? Is it enough to tell them that I moved. A lot of thing I rather omit and not say, but I still rather know what I am getting into. Thank you for your help!

Have you registered to vote in NY? What else, if anything, have you registered for in NY?

Have you registered to vote in PA?

Yes, I used to be NY resident prior to joining the military. I guess I registered to vote before in NY, but not for past 4-5 years. For current elections I registered and voted in PA only.
I have driver lisence through PA, registered to vote there, all my bills go there, and I live in my parents property there.
The only things that to attach me to NY are my school, national guard, and taxes that my parents happened to file for NY since we used to live here.

Then you should contact the administrator of the jury duty - you are not eligible to sit on their jury. You have to be a resident of the state to be able to serve on jury duty.

Is there a telephone number for you to call on the notice?

Unofrtunately, it is a notice to appear in person. Also, they never requested for me to bring any additional information along, but it specifically says that they need time of 5-15 min with me. Also, non appearance may subject me to imprisonment or a grand fine. Am I in big trouble?

Info Request

No, you can contact the jury duty administrator by contacting the court and asking for their telephone number. Inform them that you are in Pennsylvania, you live in Pennsylvania - that is your residence and has been for some time. As such you can't appear for the jury notice.

How did you receive the notice of jury duty - through forwarded mail?

Thank you very much! It happened to be solved by phone. He requested some info for PA and I just have to mail it to them. Thank you!
