Question

Hi I wonder if you could offer some advice.

I have an aquantance who has two controlled and well behaved shar-pei's, the guy just wants to be able to walk his dogs in piece. The problem is he lives in inner City London and when where there is an element of unsaviouries who have very aggressive and uncontrolled off leash pitbulls and staffies, the last six occassions his dogs have been very badly bitten and ambushed by these other dogs and he is getting quite rightly hacked off.

I have advised him to approach the owners in a calm manner and see if there can be some headway made, unfortunately evolution forgot to bring them along with the rest of humanity.

I also indicated that for his sake alone and his dogs he should speak to officials like the dog warden and or the RSPCA as well as the police, explaining his situation and the fact he wants no confrontation just to be able to walk his dogs without fear.
What can he do? please help he is at the end of his tether.

appealing to the people involved..... to no avail, next step is speaking to the authorities, but he holds out very little hope.

Hello,

I'm sorry your acquaintance is experiencing this problem with the lower human element, while walking his dogs.

I completely agree with you, that he needs to involve the authorities, because these people are breaking the law and causing law-abiding citizens to live in fear, plus his poor dogs have gotten hurt! There must be 'leash laws' in his city; aren't dogs supposed to be on a leash all the time they are outside? If these pit bulls and staffies are off-leash, they should get a ticket and be fined, by the police.

Speaking to these people is really worthless, unfortunately, as your friend has seen, so I would recommend leaving this entirely up the the authorities who have the power to do something about it.

I would also recommend that your friend walk his dogs in another area where he knows these thugs are not present. Even if he has to go in a 'roundabout' direction and further from his home, it's worth the peace of mind and his dogs' safety. He should also consider moving to a safer neighborhood, if he can.

I hope he can get this sorted out, and he and his dogs will be alright.
