Hi,
Blood in the stool indicates inflammation. This could be from intestinal parasites (roundworms, Giardia, etc) particularly if the stool is also soft. Or from a food sensitivity (like inflammatory bowel disease). It can be due to constipation--hard stool causing little tears in the rectum. There could possibly an infected anal gland, but you would likely notice some blood where the cat sits down if that were the case.

If your cat has soft stools or diarrhea, I would take a fresh sample to your vet for analysis. If the stools seem particularly hard, then changing to a canned food diet might help. If the problem continues, I would check with your regular vet.
