Question

Hi...i had my female cat spayed last tuesday and everything went ok.We got her home and she had some food and seemed like her normal self with wandering about and trying to get out.She seemed ok for a few days but for last 3 days she is off her food not going to the toilet, seems very lethargic and has been sick a couple of times.she is really not herself.Im going to ring the vets in the morning but im very worried about her.does this seem ok to you.I know they can be off their food and all that for few days but she seems this is happening in reverse with her.The area around the incision looks ok and seems to be healing well. please can u help me out. Thanks

Hi there- is she on any medications? It would be very helpful if you could check for a fever with a thermometer (rectally). Can you do that?

Has she urinated lately? Feel her belly and see if it feels hard, soft or painful?

Ive checked her belly and it feels normal to me so id say soft and doesnt seems to be in any pain when i touch it.I have a litter tray out for her and she did go in it earlier but she didnt do anything...Her tray had been clean for a few days now.

I would be very worried if she has not at least urinated in the last 24 hours or more. Has it been that long since she urinated? If not, she could have a urinary obstruction and this is an emergency. Try to feel her bladder in the back part of her abdomen. Does it feel large and firm? Like a water balloon? Or can you feel it at all?

I cant feel anything that seems to be enlarged or water balloon like.I would say though that yes she hasnt urinated for atleast 24hours.

Accepted Answer

If it is true that she has not urinated and you cannot feel a bladder, she could be in kidney failure or very very very dehydrated. Could she have urinated somewhere around the house that you do not know about? I am very worried about her and I think you should consider taking her to an emergency vet tonight.
