hello welcome to the site.
do all the other functions on the seat work ?
Dino,
Thanks for your query. The power seat moves forward and back, up and down. The lumbar support feature on the seat back is functional. The seat back knob doesn't appear to be moving more than a few millimeters (I'm not sure if this is a powered knob or mechanical knob) and thus not engaging. The passenger side seat back control is mechanical. The problem began when my daughter was looking for a lost item and tilted the seat back to the reclining position.

so this a 8 way power seat ?
did this knob work before this happend ?
if this portion of the seat is mechanical then you might have 6 way power seats
My daughter says it was working before this problem occured. The seat back control is electrical ( I found the wiring harness and connector along the inside of the seat frame). There seems to be no power to the control knob. I checked the owner's manual for the fuse position, and looks to me that there is only one fuse for the power seat. Hope this gives you more information.
ok sounds like either the object that was been looked for is cought in the recline motor.
is this a 2 pin connector for the recline motor ?
the reason i ask is this can be powered up manually to see if the motor is bad or the switch. i have a switch test but it does not cover the recline portion for some reason.
ok the recline motor is a 2 wire motor so this is a quick check you can do.
power up 1 side and then gourd the other . it will either go up or down reverse the polarity and it will change directions
the wires look to be yellow and then a green wire
You lost me! I'm not sure what you mean by "power up 1 side and gourd (guard? or ground?) the other." I'll go check for yellow and green wires. Beyond that, I'm mechanically deficient. Back in about 5 minutes.
the 2 wires are ac current so you cna apply battery voltage to 1 terminal and then ground the other terminal to complete the circuit.
if this does not move in one direction then switch power and the ground basically reversing polarity to the motor. if the motor does not work in any direction then the motor might have failed.
I have definitely found green and yellow wires. If there is no humming from the seat recline switch, does that tell me that the motor has failed or is jammed? I checked underneath the seat and found covered wires leading to the seat back, but locating the appropriate motors would be difficult because they might be under the seat itself. As far as troubleshooting the switch and motor as you suggest, this is beyond my capability and my limited mechanical and electrical equipment.
if your comfortable with powering up the 2 wires and see if this is a failed motor or a failed switch ?
Dino
What do I power it up with?
I know you're getting frustrated with my lack of expertise, and I feel like an idiot. This looks like a job for my local mechanic or the Hyundai dealer. I'm running out of daylight also. I think I need to take a course or read up on troubleshooting electrical problems. I'll click "Accept" for the time you've spent with me.
no worries im a very patient person but atleast your on the correct track.
