Question

I own a 2006 corvette convertible. I am having electical problems. I go to start the car, the dash lights up but when pushing the brake and the push button starter, the dash goes dead (blacks out for 8-10 seconds). The starter does not engage and it will not start. The battery is fully charged and all dash, lights and radio work fine. This happend 2 weeks ago. I had it towed to the dealer. The dealer saw the problem but could not diagnose the problem as it went away and appeared intermittent. He had it 4 days and could not get the problem to come back. I picked up the car and drove it 3 days. Today, it is sitting in the garage again and won't start. I have checked and fuses and relays which appear to be good. About 1 year ago, I had a similar problem and they changed the batter due a defective cell.   Today, the batter reads ok. Help would be appreciated as I am getting frustrated.

Answer

I am assuming that the dealer chased down all wires for shorts. That being I would replace your push button start. Something inside is connecting more than it needs to.

Thanks Dan

Why are you suggestion the starter button? What is causingn the dash to go dead or blank for 10 seconds. What if is was a ground connection issue? I don't necessary think replacing the starter button is acceptable answer without additional information on the dash issue.

Answer

Check the starter bolts and make sure they are tight. See if you can move that starter at all with your hand, if it is loose maybe the starter is grounding out at the dash ground and causing the dash to loose it's ground for a while. While you're down there might as well check the wire connections and wires insulation for being burned through and touching a ground.

Sorry. I check the start and relay as 1 of the first items I reviewed when the problem started and it was ok. I took it back to the dealer yesterday. They found an anti theft relay that was bad and had it replaced.

Answer

Glad to hear the dealer found the problem.
