Question

97 740 IL BMW . AC blower sometimes works, other time not at all. If I turn off the AC the blower runs many times stronger, but not all the time. Very irregular the bahaviour. I think the blower regulator defective. It is easy to change on the 5 series. Is the same on the 740?

Answer

It sounds like the blower motor itself or the switch is failing. If it was the regulator it usually means 1 speed stopped working or it never works at all. You will need to monitor voltage at the blower motor with a testlight or voltmeter and if there is voltage but the motor is not working you know the blower motor needs to be replace. If there is no voltage verify there is no voltage comming out of the switch and replace. let me know if you have questions, thanks.

I think you are wrong. There was 100% same problem on the internet blog, but it was a 5 series not my 740. My question was how to replace the rear blower regulator on the 740, because of my repair man talks about 7 hours work, while on the internet blog they talk 15-30 min. to replace it. For all the guyes who answered the blog the dealers shop wanted to change everything

Accepted Answer

The blower motor regulator is inside the blower case, here are instructions to replace it is about a 5 hour job shop rate. Let me know if you have questions, thanks.

Info Request

I do not have a part number for the blower motor regulator so it may be a aftermarket part that you will have to buy from somewhere on the internet. Otherwise you could get a used blower motor from www.car-parts.com sort by price and have them ship it to you. The link you sent does not work for me either. Here is a copy of what I see when I click on the link, let me know if there is anything else I can do to help. Thanks
