Hi Daisey,
You need to have a psychiatrist evaluate you for depression, and give you a clean bill of health, so to speak.
Having depression, however, should not preclude you from having custody or visitation of your children. Ask your attorney to assist in choosing a psychiatrist who is familiar with family court and comfortable with testifying that you are healthy emotionally and mentally.
Most child visitation courts are interested in allowing the children to see both parents if they are not harmful to the child's well being.
In some states the Child Welfare department will also assist you with evaluations to help the court see you as a viable and positive parent.
Hope this helps. Gina
