Reply to Tammy Falkner's Post: yes they are very thin and i can see every bone in there body and i called the person who has these dogs and asked him when was the last time that he feed them and he told me 2 days ago and i told him that its been longer then that for them to look that bad and he said that maybe its cause he changed there food and i told him they would not look like that if you did that. i was so upset yesterday i was crying and i went and got them some food and feed them last night and i told him that i would be watching to make sure that they was feed everyday. and they are big dogs not sure what kind of dogs and to top it all of the person who is not feeding his dogs is a pastor. if that dont be all. i was crying and crying and i called him up and i was tell him if he lets those dogs die i will never for give him and that if he cant take care of the take them to the spca so they can get a better home. my heart is just breaking knowing that them dogs have not had any food for who knows how long and how long can they go without food i think that maybe its been about a month or longer sense he has feed them... but he keeps telling me thats hes feeding them there's no way and then he told me that there must be something wrong with them for them to look that bad and if there was and he was feeding them he would have noticed that looking that thin and done something about it before now.. thanks so much for your reply sorry that mine was so long im so upset about this and i love animals and i dont like it when people mistreat them it makes me so mad...

Answer

My dear...I don't mean to butt into your conversation with Tammy about this...but I can see you are very upset...and I have seen this situation many times as an Animal Control officer. You must have an SPCA near you...or Animal Control officer...So please go ahead and call them on this.
It is very possible that the owner of the dogs is feeding them, but maybe not enough.
It is also quite possible that the dogs are ate up with worms and thier food is not nurishing them at all...in either case, an Animal Control officer will be able to impress upon the owner the need for vet care.
If the dogs are sick...we want them to be treated and not suffer, nor spead disease throughout the neighborhood.
Your neighbor may be upset that you called Animal Control, but hopefully an officer will respond that can educate this pet owner and quell fueding in order to get the animals care...And let him know that you are just a concerned citizen who would try to gain help for your neighbor.
I have been on this type of call many times, and Animal Control is not going to just go out there and take his dogs away. They will speak with him to get his reaction, give him time to improve and seek care for his dogs, and educate him on responsible pet ownership.
Many times pet owners find that they truely can not take care of thier animals (for whatever reason)in an appropriate way, and go ahead and relinquish the dogs to the officer. This gets the dogs into treatment right away and offers them a chance at a better home.
So please, call the SPCA...Animal Control...or whatever agency handles these matters in your area. Don't speak to the owner anymore about it...Call today. This will help you, the dogs, and even the owner do what's right.
Feel free to reply to Tammy or myself, or let me know if I can answer any further questions, and good luck. Let me know how it goes through Private Messanger...I would like to hear.
