Question

I have a 1 year old Siberian husky. She is VERY active. About 4 days ago she started sneezing often. The sneezes are short but usually come several in a row. Do dogs get colds or is it allergies? Is there anything over the counter I can use or do i need to take her to a vet asap because it is something more serious?

Hi mustangsally (like your name)

Dogs do get allergies but often you would see some scratching going on as well from airborne allergies and there may be licking of the feet. Is it a regular sneeze or a reverse sneeze where she sucks air in rapidly through the nose?

Also do you have any foxtail in the area she may have gotten into?

Have you changed any cleaning products? Sometimes swiffer makes them sneeze a lot.

She is not scratching or licking her feet. She just doesn't have her ususal energy. It is a regular sneeze I haven't changed any cleaning products. We live in Arizona. i have a rock yard but we go to a grass dog park daily. We have gone there every day since she was 4 months old. Thanks.

Thank you for that information and mauY I apologise for the way mey answer is printing out as there is a site issue. Sneezing can be from allergies, dryness, a foreign object in the nasal passage, virus, or even a tooth problem can cause a problem. I would not say it is an emergency if she is still eating, drinking, has no fever and is not lethargic.

Should you notice any of the above or you notice any problems with breathing such as wheezing, or sneezing blood then you will want to make an appointment with your vet. What you are describing does not sound like an emergency. It's possible the park you visit laid something down that is irritating her as well. Just keep an eye on her for now.

Here is more on sneezing and nasal discharge.
