Question

Hi,

I have done a lot of research into bipolar disorder and obsessive complulsiveness. For the last 3 years, after setbacks of certain endeavors, i've come to realize I might be highly cycling in moods. My main problem is, I've been highly fatigued. I'm a college student. When I understand that my academic performance is in a critical state, I responded, but immediately after this session I fell into the same lull again. Recently, I've experienced something else that's been a constant source of uncertainty. Since then, I've been unable to sleep well. I can't shake off as a minor or a simple depression, because immediately afterward, I was highly excited and happy afterward, causing more sleep-loss. At the risk of seeming arrogant, I'm highly creative, and people recognize that I am. I know I have the energy and motivation.
But I am always falling into the same thought process, and fatigue, appetite shifts, migranes. Are there any examples of bpd that I can use to guage myself?

Answer

Hey Ninja,

It sounds like you've got rapid cycling bipolar disorder, which can often have OCD components in the high phase. You certainly wouldn't be the first highly creative person with it! Many of the classic artists over time have had it.

Have you ever gotten treatment for it? If not, please do - you'll find that you can have your life and your mind back under your control. Almost any psychiatrist you find will be able to help you with it, as it's very common.

I'm not sure what you mean by BPD examples to guage yourself by, but I'm going to give you some links that you can compare your story to other's so that you can see how your symptoms line up against someone elses.
