have a whirlpool side by side that the compressor runs very hot, the ref side will only cool down to 50deg the freezer cools to 10 deg . what is the problem or problems I am looking at

Already Tried:
it just quit two nights ago had to relace the protective device on the compressor, it started back up but the refrig side doesnt cool below 50 deg the freezer cools to about 10deg, I think the compressor is going bad but dont know how to check it.

yes they are both hot one is hotter than the other and the compressor is to hot to hold your hand on the top or sides of it
