Hello XXXXXXXXX,

I'm sorry your cat has not been feeling well. If the vet's initial treatment seemed to help your cat until today, and now he's exhibiting the same symptoms, plus is not interested in eating, yes, I would recommend bringing him back to the vet for another evaluation and treatment.

Mouth-breathing is usually a symptom of stress or being overheated, so he may have fever. Normal temp for cats is between 100.5 and 102.5, rectally, so if you can check your cat's temperature, now, you'll know if he has fever. If you don't want to further stress him by taking his temperature at home, just bring him to the vet, where his temp should be checked in the course of his exam.

Viral infections are often difficult to eradicate and may require more than one round of treatment, so the vet may do some additional testing and change or add a treatment at this time.

Because your cat is a senior, it's also important to have him seen again, and I hope you can accomplish that today, and once he's treated, your furry boy is feeling much better.
