HAVE 2008 c60 volvo, brakes are sharp, abrupt stops. Does Volvo or others have something that can be done?

Car just bought used has 44000 miles

well if the pads are new, which may be the case, they require a break in periond of light to semi hard use, which includes using them with a good amount of pressure each time you have to use them. the pads will need time to "set" themselves, if this doesnt straighten out after some good useage, then I would have the proportioning valve checked, it regulates how much fluid goes to each wheel when stopping.
