Depends on the money you want to spend. 6 years old is not very old, but the question is what caused the hole to begin with and will it happen again in another 6 years.......
As long as a licensed contractor is going to do the replacement of the exchanger, it is much cheaper (in most cases) depending on availability of a replacement. If you do have it replaced, make sure they do a carbon monoxide test after they complete the install. Many times the new gaskets may not be installed correctly and allow CO2 to get into the house.
