i have a sony vaio vgn nr21j laptop my problem is with charger plugged into laptop it wont charge up no lights on charger or laptop ,so i bought a new charger and plugged it in and light on charger and 3 lights on laptop came on the laptop then came on a few times so i left it plugged in to charge a while 30 minutes later same problem no lights on charger or laptop i have tested new charger no output but it did work when i first tried it any ideas.

What is current status of laptop ? ... does it works or not ?

Please answer all these questions 1 to 3 point by point.

1. When you press the power button to turn it on, do you see any thing on screen, like the VAIO boot up screen or something like that. Or is it completely blank (black color) always.

2. Can you see a faint image of your desktop (try to see it in dark place with flash light). This is important to confirm.

3. Also, when you press power button, do you see the LED lights on laptop blinking or solid green (which ones are in blinking/solid) and do hear any sound ? Or do you feel that your laptop doesnt even try to boot.

when i press power button it does not come on and nothing on screen.
there is no faint image.
when i press power button no lights come on .
its as i said it seems that the laptop breaks or fuses the charger hope this helps.

Hi, Thank you for the information.

Please do the following carefully:
1. Shutdown and Unplug your laptop.
2. Remove the battery from the laptop.
3. Wait 2-3 minutes
4. Now press ON (power button on laptop) for 1 minute
5. Then release the finger and wait one more minute.
6. Now plug in the power cable (dont insert battery yet) and press ON button.
7. Did your screen start working now ? (do you see windows loading)

Let me know how it goes. Do you see any change in LEDs on/blinking.

Does your charger (adapter) has a green LED on it ? ... and it does not glow when you plug it in wall AC supply ?

it does have a green light on it but does not glow .this the question i am asking could laptop fuse or break charger this is 2nd charger wich worked at first for about 30 mins but now same as original charger no lights on laptop and green light on charger not lit up thanks.

Hello !!

There are several possibilities :

1. Your AC wall plug has issues and so the charger is getting burnt

2. Generally a bad laptop will not burn the charger because laptop works on very low voltage. In worst case it can happen, but chances are remote.

3. These chargers dont have any replaceble components. Some do have a fuse in them and you will have to open it up to see. But sony original chargers dont have screws to open them up (new ones) and so if its in warranty I would better get a free replacement.

If you can get a replacement and then try to connect the laptop at some different location you can confirm if its a AC supply or laptop issue.

its not ac wall plug this is the second charger that has failed so i dont think its the charger.

In that case it could be a bad power jack on laptop that is shorted or a bad motherboard too.
