Question

I adopted a 10-month old female cat recently, and also got a 4-month old male ragdoll kitten from a breeder. The female had just received deworming meds before she came. She had gas when the foster dropped her off. I have been changing her over to eat the same (and healthier) food the kitten eats (grain free), and have been doing it gradually, but she still has gas and her poo smells awful. Any suggestions? She also has one eye that is watering a lot. The foster suggested I give her lysine, which the breeder also recommended. Both cats are getting lysine, acidophilus, and salmon oil (non-odorous brand) in their wet food. Thank you!

Optional Information

Pet's Sex: Female
Pet's Age: 10

Already Tried:
Gradually changing her diet. When she came she was only eating ham-flavored baby food as her wet food, and she was eating Royal Canin kibble with corn/grains. She is off the baby food and eating Wellness, Avo, Natural balance canned, and is almost completely off the Royal Canin kibble, although there is still a bit of it mixed in with the Wellness Core + Solid Gold Indigo Moon mix of grain free kibble.

Hi there,

Is the female a Ragdoll too?

Does she have diarrhea?

Is she spayed?

Is the boy healthy?

How long do you have her?

Thanks,

Terri

Hi Terri:

The female is a tabby, the foster considers her a Maine Coon mix -- she does have the coloring of a maine coon. A little bit of diarrhea, although the stools do seem to be firming up, they're still soft. She is spayed. The boy is healthy -- probably healthier than she is, because he came from a really good breeder. I've only had her for two weeks, him for a week. She can clear a room with either her gas or her poo! It literally makes me gag when I clean her box.

Dear friend,

May God bless you for adopting her!!

It sounds like she immune system is weak due to an inappropriate diet and lack of care in her former home.

I see you have changed her food (good for you!) and are giving l-lycine and acidophilus.

The smelly poo is from bad bacteria - swiitch to www.culturelle.com as that is the best probiotic.

Also give her one half a pepsid a/d daily and a halftsp of plain yogurt.

Add a half tsp of colloidal silver a day to the community water. Get it in a health food store.

Apply a damp teabag to her eyes three times a day. The tanic acid in the tea will reduce the PH of her tears.

Be patient, it can take a month or two to get her metabolsm to straighten out.

Please let me know how things are going.

Warmest best wishes,

Terri
