At this point, I gently lift her off the litter when she it finished, and cover the poop with a scoop and pat it down. Then she sometimes will get back into the box and scratch around.

Hi there,

Thank you for your post!

Is she the only cat in the house?

Is the poop normal? soft?

Her name is Calla.. and she has been with Dixie, since they were 2 months old. They came from the same cattery and we have had them since they were 3 months old. The poop issue has been very stressful, in that at first they had a lot of diarrhea which was tracked all over the house. After working with our vet, we have overcome that problem. But we are left with the not-covering issue. Anyway, the answer to your question is that right now her poop is solid, but slightly soft. Hope that helps.

Accepted Answer

Hi there,

The nature of what you describe is likely from 2 reasons...

1) If the poop is not normal / soft - this may be the reason that she is reluctant to bury it. If not done recently - having the poop evaluated to make sure there is not a reason for this is something to consider.

2) The other common reason for this behavior is territorial behavior - as she is marking her territory with the fecal scent, not wanting to bury this. Options to try to correct this include adding another litterbox to the house or even products such as Feliway, to reduce stress in the house to decrease this territorial behavior.
