Gender: Female

Already Tried:
I went to an urgent care clinic after a negative sexual encounter. I was tested for STD's and prescribed Next Choice (the generic of Plan B) - this was done within 12 hrs. of the encounter. I am still so afraid of getting pregnant and NEED to prevent it. I am not in support of abortion.
*Can the abortion pill be taken now to prevent pregnancy from ocurring?

Answer

Hello,
An alternative to emergency contraceptive pills is the copper-T intrauterine device (IUD) which can be used up to 5 days after unprotected intercourse to prevent pregnancy

have you done this for patients before?

Answer

Usually doctors tend to insert IUD during 1 week .
Morning after pill is more commonly used for emergency contraception .

However IUD seems to have secondary effect of interfering with the development of pre-implanted embryos .
This effect is considered as a reason for effectiveness of IUD as emergency contraception.

Thank you -

What are your final thoughts on the situation? Should I try to get an IUD as well? I do not support abortion IF I would be pregnant. The intercourse ocurred on Sat.

Accepted Answer

The failure rate of morning after pill is quite low especially if you take it as early as possible.
So chances of pregnancy after emergency contraception pill are very low .
In case you want IUD as well you can consult your obs/gyn doctor .
The 'morning-after pill' is now widely used by women who have had unprotected sex.
