Hi: Thanks for coming to Just Answer with your question. My name is Randall and I believe I can assist you with this. This is kind of like asking a football fan who their favorite team is. Ask any 10 of us and you would probably get 10 different answers! Let me give you some pointers on what to look for in any brand. And to answer your question more directly; Skyline is a middle of the road brand. There are campers that are cheaper and a number more expensive. The main thing to keep in mind as you search for a replacement is to look at each one with a critical eye. Most of what goes into any of these units is made by someone else. All the appliances and electrical parts are made by numberous companies. Even many of the plastic parts and cabinents may be made by others. Take a look at the finish and the cabinents. Check the roof very carefully. Do things fit? Is the trim neat and put on properly? Units from the same manufacturer that are the same model can vary quite a bit! I personally think BigFoot makes one of the best quality units, but they aren't in business any more. You would have to pick up a previously owned unit. I like the two piece clamshell all fiberglass design. It is almost bulletproof for leaks and that is one of the areas that gives campers the most problems. Leaks can total a unit in short order. I like Norcold over Dometic and I think Carrier is the best A/C you can get. I like Hydro-flame over Suburban in a furnace and Atwood over Suburban in a water heater. These are personal observations after having worked on hundreds of units. That is not to say that the others aren't good; as they also give good service. How you take care of your unit will make a huge difference as to how long things last and the amount of problems you might have.
Slides are nice, but they have their share of problems too. Whatever you buy, just be sure you have checked it out carefully for quality and make sure the roof doesn't have damage or has leaked as those repairs can cost over $1,000 very quickly! I hope this has been helpful. Follow up questions are fine. When we are finished, please hit the "accept" tab so I get credit for my time assisting you. Feedback about your experience with Just Anwswer is always appreciated! All the best, R.J.

What camper do you recommend to buy jayco., layton ect. I'm confused on quality.

I would pick Jayco over Layton. I had a Layton 5th wheel and it was o.k., but there are better. On quality, look for the "extras" and design. How is is laid out? Wasted space? Fiberglass siding or metal? Metal is easier to repair on major things, fiberglass holds up better in the long haul. Cost has a lot to do with it. What it really boils down to, is what do you like and is it in good shape? How you take care of it and keep it maintained will go a long way to how long it lasts and how many problems you have. How thick is the roof underlayment. Have the salesperson give you some specs on each one. Have him tell you why his is better than another. Make them earn their money! By quality, I am referring to how well and neatly is it finished and the quality of the doors, cabinents and overall finish work. Does it show sloppy workmanship and things not really fitting....stuff like that. Now is a good time to make a deal as sales are way down. Make them sharpen the pencil! I have to get to work, but I'll check back at lunchtime if you have more questions. All the best, R.J.
