Question

I have a 2001 S40 Volvo. Check engine light came on, P1033 sensor one bank one slow response. Changed both the upstream and downstream sensors and cleared the code. Next day same code came back. Talked to a friend who used to work on Volvos and he suggested the o2 adapter cable to prevent contamination. Added the adapter cable and cleared codes. Codes returned the next day. He then suggested changing the adaptive values. Not sure what that means but I need your advise. Where would you go from here?

can it also be the catalytic converter, should I have diagnostics, what about resetting the adaptive values, what else?

Accepted Answer

catalytic converter is possible but you would have efficiency fault codes so i thing that still good, to rest fuel trim is best to use Volvo scan tool to reset but you can try this if it don't work that you have to try scan tool if after scan tool fault codes comes back that replace exhaust manifold gaskets .to rest remove both sides battery cables from battery tape both ends together for 30 min this will discharge all ecu in car reconnect both leads to battery and test drive it.

also check if you loosing fuel pressure at rest.with fuel gauge.
