These emails are a total scam. Do not ever respond to these emails or you run the risk of identity theft.

The Internal Revenue Service will NEVER communicate with you by email.

There are various email scams going around right now where the sender portrays to be from the IRS, but all they are trying to get you to do is provide them with your personal information.

Here is a link to an IRS web page which talks about the various email scams that are circulating and what you can do to report these.
