Question

I'm the original buyer of a FULLY LOADED 2002 Jeep Liberty. it only has 28,852 miles on it & I to hav already had to have 2 windows fixed. The problem I'm now having is that I fell down my steps, broke both legs & a hand & so my fathers been driving meto Dr's appt.s & letting my dog out once a day. One morning he came over & told me that both my driver windows were rolled down. I NEVER keep tham down as I don't have a garage, so thinking that mayby my Dad had left them bown by accident, I gave him the keys, & asked him to roll them up.Once the jeep was turned on the windows would NOT respond. I had him drive it through the parking lot & the driver window fianlly rolled up but my dad had to "PULL" the rear window up which took it off the track & it's now duct taped shut. Thinking this was the only problem , we continued to drive it to my appt's, but after a BBQ on Labor day I was returned to my home where I watched the interior lights turn themselves on. Knowing that my Jeep has a safety measure built in that prvents the battery from being drained if a light is left on, I went on up stairs to my house. then yesterday at a CRUCIAL time we got into the Jeep & when we tried to start it , the battery was dead. The key fob worked to open the locks & it also re-locked them but i DID NOT get the usual BEEP that accompanies the doors locking . needless to say the jeep's not been moved, as in my condition I can't work on it, & I'm also disabled living on a very limited income. the dealership wanted $200 to simply plug it in & run an electrial diagnostic on it, Have you ever heard of this happening before & if so what should I plan on spending to get it fixwd? tht way I can plan out how many months I'll have to go without food in order to have transportation to my CRITICAL Dr's appt.s Thanks . p.J. Optional Information

Year: 2002
Make: Jeep
Model: Liberty limited edition

Already Tried:
Turning the vehicle on , & attempting to roll the windows up, followed by driving the vehicle about which finally allowed us to roll uthe driver's window only. The passenger ABSOLUTLY failed to respond & is now off the track & Duct taped shut. As far as the interior lights turning themselves on at random,I've had NO clue what to do except to possibly disconnect the battery everytime the Jeep's turned off, but in my present condition 2 broken legs & a broked arm, I just can't do this.

Answer

This is probably not the answer you want to hear, but, you need to see an authorized dealership in diagnosing this vehicle. You have a body control module (sometimes called a GEM) that decided to have a mind of its own. This is the cause of your problems, and if you see independent shops, they will charge you, mabye sell parts and not fix your vehicle. I can not walk you through the diagnosis becuase it is extremly extensive, and your module will have to be programmed at the dealership regardless.
Although this was not the answer you expected, It is the truth.
An accept and feedback is always appreciated, but only if it was of use to you.
Let me know if I can help
Thanks
Nick.

What doed this generally cost?

Accepted Answer

You have to expect to pay a diagnostic fee, dont expect to spend more than an hour labor at the dealership for this (check your local rate) and an hour of labor plus parts for the module replacement.
Im sorry but this is the only way to fix your vehicle. I do not recommend having anyone else than the dealer diagnosing or attempting repair. This will cause a much larger cost in unneccesary diagnosing fees and possibly part replacements for no reason.
I recommend printing my answers and showing them to the dealer, it will help them, and also let them know you are not fooling around for a one time repair.
Thanks
Nick.
